Piano Day is a celebration of our instrument, repertoire, and most importantly, the joy of learning and performing music! We invite you to join SDSU Piano Faculty Dr. Mark Stevens and Dr. Xuan Kuang, along with this year’s guest artist, Dr. Elizabeth Grimpo, for an afternoon of performance workshops and recitals. Students and teachers of all ages and ability levels will gain valuable insights into practice strategies, musical interpretation, and performance techniques, followed by a solo recital performed by our guest artist. We look forward to having you join us!

Peter Schickele’s Concerto No. 2 for Brass and Piano Quintet

Works for piano, marimba, and vibraphone by Steven Snowden and Ivan Trevino

Presented by the Sioux Falls Music Teachers Association. [re]Vision is a solo recital program exploring works by composers that reinterpret repertoire, genres, or styles from earlier eras. Hear music from composers including William Grant Still, Caroline Shaw, Frederic Chopin, Carl Vine, Ferruccio Busoni, and J.S. Bach. You will enjoy an afternoon of solo piano playing interspersed with spoken insight on the composers and their processes, all woven into a cohesive and exciting concert journey.

Join Dr. Mark Stevens, Director of Keyboard Studies for SDSU's Oscar Larson School of Performing Arts, and Dr. Xuan Kuang, Instructor of Group Piano and Artistic Collaboration, for an fun and informative day of educational events and live performances. This event is designed for middle school and high school pianists, parents, and piano teachers.

Performing with the South Dakota ACDA Honor Choir, Dr. Paul Rardin, conductor.

An exploration of compositions for piano that seek to connect with and reinvent music from the past. Featuring music from William Grant Still, Carl Vine, Caroline Shaw, and Ferruccio Busoni.

Dr. Stevens will join Dr. Yiqun Chen, saxophone, and Dr. Tammy Evans Yonce, flute, for a performance of Russell Peterson’s Trio for Flute, Saxophone, and Piano.

Dr. Stevens will be joining Dr. David Reynolds, trumpet, and Dr. Tammy Evans Yonce, flute. Repertoire includes Aaron Copland’s Quiet City and the regional premiere of Daniel Dorff’s Ballade for alto flute, flugelhorn, and piano.
